In Memory of Lawrence A. Sutter

Lawrence A. Sutter

Larry Sutter was one of the founders of our firm over 15 years ago. He served as the leader of our firm from the beginning to shortly before his death. More importantly, he was a friend and mentor to us all.

Larry began his career in 1989 working for a large firm in Cleveland. In 2002, he, along with Matt O’Connell and others, formed our firm so that Larry and others could represent clients in the only way Larry knew – fearless representation – anywhere – anytime. Through Larry’s guidance, the firm grew. Clients expanded to include numerous Fortune 500 companies and major excess and general insurance carriers. More importantly and as a testament to Larry and the firm’s commitment, many of the same clients that existed in 2002 exist today.

Throughout his career, Larry was known as a hard-charging trial lawyer. And, the industry recognized this. Larry was a “Super Lawyer” for over 10 years and they featured him as “Best Defense” in 2008. In addition, the National Law Journal recognized him in their publication multiple times. In his spare time, Larry continued his passion for mentoring trial lawyers by leading the Akron School of Law to four national championships and eighteen regional titles, and Sutter O’Connell attorneys will continue this tradition. His teaching and coaching ability were just recently recognized by Stetson University’s College of Law (Tampa, Florida), a competitor of Akron, with their inaugural Cornerstone Award for exceptional proficiency in advocacy teaching.

Larry left a legacy of numerous trial attorneys who call him mentor and friend. Larry also left a legacy of this firm. We will continue to be guided by Larry’s example of leadership in the years to come. And, the Sutter name will continue to live in our firm. Representing clients in the only way Larry knew – Fearless Representation. Anywhere. Anytime.
